Weight-based taxation
Trailers are taxed at €7.46 per started 200 kg of gross vehicle weight, capped at a maximum of €373.24 per year. Caravan trailers are fully exempt from vehicle tax.
Many owners instead opt for co-taxation via the towing vehicle: this removes the separate trailer tax, but adds a surcharge to the towing vehicle's own tax — usually cheaper for occasional use.
