How the calculation works
Motorcycles are taxed purely by engine displacement, with no CO₂ component: €1.84 per started 25 cc, regardless of the year of manufacture or emissions (§ 9 (1) No. 2b KraftStG).
Mopeds up to 50 cc with an insurance registration plate (Versicherungskennzeichen) are exempt from vehicle tax, since the cost is bundled into the third-party insurance premium instead.
